The Findhorn Community Semester is an accredited
undergraduate-level programme, empowering
students with the personal and intellectual skills
to help build a more sustainable future.
Integrating academic and experiential learning, the
programme is based in the Findhorn Ecovillage, which
provides a tangible demonstration of the links between
the spiritual, social and economic aspects of life
and a synthesis of the best of current thinking on
sustainable human settlements. Students engage in
daily seminars with faculty, experience living education
through practical work in the community, and explore
themes relevant to our times such as spiritual practice,
sustainable and systemic design & thinking, and
group process & conflict resolution.

'Living in a community made theorizing about groups
and sustainability very relevant and immediate. What
went well for me was being treated like a human being
with a heart and a soul as well as a mind.'
FCS Student from Middlebury College
'Psychology gave me tools and vocabulary for understanding
group processes, as well as for self-reflection.'
FCS Student from the University of Massachusetts
'Our learning was taken much more seriously, because
the classes were our lives rather than being limited
to a few hours a week.'
FCS Student from Green Mountain College
'This has been the biggest and best learning experience
of my life thus far.'
FCS Student from Lewis and Clark College

Findhorn as Ecovillage
Ecovillages offer new models for living. The Findhorn
Foundation is a demonstration site for sustainable
living: the community has its own organic gardens
and community-supported agriculture system, wind-powered
generator, "Living Machine" sewage treatment
facility, and "green building" program with
30 ecological buildings completed and a further 30-40
in planning stages. In addition, Global Ecovillage
Network-Europe currently has its headquarters here.
Sustainable living means more than designing environmental
systems or developing new technologies, however; it
also includes human interactions such as conflict
resolution and collective decision-making. The Findhorn
Community is based on a spiritual philosophy that
seeks to integrate personal and spiritual growth,
environmental concerns, work, family, education, and
global responsibility.
