Over the course of the modern era, scientists have discovered aspects of biological and cosmological creativity that are somewhat counterintuitive for us.

We humans are surprised by certain dimensions of cosmic creativity primarily because our consciousness has been shaped, at least in part, by the fact of our having hands.

When we think of creativity, we naturally tend to think in terms of construction, of building, of assembling something piece by piece.

Thus, one of the most challenging aspects of cosmic creativity is the necessity of destruction or cataclysm in every significant process.

We are in this time entering a period of cataclysm and this is never an easy path, but it is a pathway that might open up a new era of creative possibilities.

Brian Swimme

Dr. Brian Swimme is a mathematical cosmologist on the graduate faculty of the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.

Brian Swimme's primary field of research is the nature of the evolutionary dynamics of the Universe.

Swimme brings us a meaningful interpretation of the human as an emergent being within the Universe and Earth. His central concern is the role of the human within the Earth community. Toward this goal, in 1989, Swimme founded the Center for the Story of the Universe, a production and distribution affiliate of the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Powers of the UniverseSwimme was featured in the television series Soul of the Universe (The BBC, 1991) and The Sacred Balance produced by David Suzuki (CBC and PBS, 2003). He is the producer of a twelve-part dvd series Canticle to the Cosmos which has been distributed worldwide. Other dvd programs featuring Swimme’s ideas include The Earth’s Imagination and The Powers of the Universe.

Dr. Swimme lectures worldwide and has presented at conferences sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, The World Bank, UNESCO, The United Nations Millennium Peace Summit, and the American Natural History Museum
