"For depth of understanding of Earth functioning and our human role in the process, Stephan Harding’s Animate Earth is the finest of recent studies. —Thomas Berry, author of The Great Work

Stephan Harding invites us on a journey to explore how Gaian science and a systems view of Life can help us to develop a sense of interconnectedness with the more-than-human world.

Stephan’s work blends Jungian psychology, deep ecology and the science of Gaia with infectious enthusiasm and passion into a poetic celebration of our co-creative membership in the community of life. During this week-long course we will alternate between informative talks, group dialogue, experiential exercises and time spent exploring the beautiful surroundings of Findhorn ecovillage

Stephan Harding holds a doctorate in ecology from the University of Oxford. He has been the programme co-ordinator of the MSc in Holistic Science and resident teacher at Schumacher College since 1992. Stephan is a close associate of James Lovelock and an expert in deep ecology and Gaian science. His work is based on a skilful integration of rational scientific analysis with intuition, sensing and feeling. Stephan offers a vitally important contribution to how we redefine our relationship with planet Earth at this time of severe ecological and climate crisis. His book, Animate Earth – Science, Intuition and Gaia has been highly acclaimed:

“This is a wonderful and beautiful book, a teacher’s treasure.” —James Lovelock

"Animate Earth represents systems science at its best...gives a whole new dimension to what ‘environment-friendly’ really means." — Jonathon Porritt

"This book offers a brilliant new approach—at once rigorous, experiential, and intuitive—to the most up-to-date research within planetary ecology."
—David Abram, author of The Spell of the Sensuous
