As Erik says :
“ If we’re honest with ourselves, we need to recognize that policy changes and technology upgrades will not be enough to prevent the coming decline of the Earth system—the basis for a stable human civilization.
The only viable solution will be to spread a new cultural paradigm that intentionally and proactively spreads a sustainable way of living—one that helps restore Earth’s systems instead of undermining them.
With consumerism currently at the heart of so many cultural systems and propped up by key societal institutions—this is easier said than done. However, using those same institutions (and others) it is possible to reorient cultures away from consumerism and toward sustainability.”
Join Erik Assadourian, who will lead a workshop based on several years of research that went into State of the World 2010: Transforming Cultures: From Consumerism to Sustainability.
During the afternoon, Erik will lead a discussion on how to expand a community’s role in support of needed cultural transformation and the many ways that key institutions—namely education, business, the media, governments, traditions, and social movements—may be energised and offer a focus for this.
Expect an interactive course which will balance presenting an overview of the research with brainstorming opportunities for participants.
Together we will identify approaches in own work and explore the path ways that can make it more effective in the long-run.
