Building on the practice of the visual arts, this course offers a next step and a confirmation of art as a healing path. Within the spectrum of possibilities in the Advanced Courses we will focus our art work through the lens of different themes. What we see, perceive and express can give valuable insight and a sense of one's own progress when the awareness of health and healing in art are addressed in a more specific context. In 2008 the focus is on the the creative spirit and the space we fill it with.
Art highlights the dialogue between the essential character of creator and their created work. Ongoing connection with the creative source strengthens the capacity to form new patterns in life and to trans-form old ones; it accepts and appreciates our efforts to live life as creators within spaces. By exploring spaces artistically an awareness of the significance of individual space can grow, especially for well being. Furthermore, space is shared, moved and connected to more than oneself. Through art the processes of seeing the bigger picture in life and in the natural world we can reveal a whole new perspective.
Through specific exercises, where we explore aspects of the creative spirit within the space that our intuition holds, and through projects in painting, drawing or sculpture, we develop the tools to work more consistently with art as a balancing and healing agent. Apart from realising personal intentions the course work allows for study and reflective time, as well as small group work to incorporate different aspects of art into professional use.
In general, the aim is to strengthen further the creative artist in each person; with tools to work more consistently with sensory awareness and development of self.
Both Healing through Art courses can be beneficial to art therapists or to artists with an interest in the helping professions.
